Over the past months the relationship between our parish and the Emmanuel Mission Learning Centre has been growing stronger and more evident. Their new facility in the lower level of Trinity Hall is beautiful, functional, and promises to be a place of strong learning and even stronger community.
This spring, Holy Trinity Anglican Church is branching out with our first-ever peer-to-peer fundraiser to support Emmanuel Mission Learning Centre (EMLC)
The Emmanuel Mission summer day camp has served close to 100 children and their families across Winnipeg each year, since 2014. The camp’s program includes tutoring, math and language supplements, sports, singing, field trips and more. The majority of students are newcomers to Canada from South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Congo, Uganda, Nepal, and Somalia.
In 2021, Emmanuel Mission received capital funding to expand to a year-round program which will allow children and their parents to experience learning and working together and with others. The parent component was identified as a priority because of what staff and volunteers had observed and learned from the summer program.
Community support for Emmanuel Mission has grown steadily over the years, however, to build and sustain program capacity, the Board has identified core operational funding needs, including providing honoraria for the program's Coordinator and young adult mentors as well as office and student transportation expenses.
These will be the focus of this year's Say Yes! to Kids campaign through the Anglican Foundation of Canada. “As a spiritual leader my greatest desire is to see these children grow into future leaders,” says Fr. Abraham (Monybuny) Chuol, Executive Director. “As a community, we face numerous challenges in our process of settlement and integration, which is why this program is needed. I am confident that God will provide opportunities for our continued success and am grateful for the support and goodwill of the people of the Diocese of Rupert’s Land.
