Our bishop has updated the diocesan protocols regarding COVID-19. The letter is attached to this news post and is available on the diocesan website. The text of the letter is repeated below.
Other than permission for readers and preachers to unmask during those activities, our parish practices are not affected by these changes.
Letter text:
Greetings in Jesus Christ, who continually shapes and forms us as one.
The Provinces of Manitoba and Ontario are in the process of winding-down strict public protocols regarding COVID 19. This letter out-lines present protocols for the Diocese of Rupert’s Land, while respecting full governmental orders.
The local Vestries and Parish Councils shall make the decision that all gatherings be in-person or not, and do so based upon criteria set-out by the various governmental orders.
The Diocese of Rupert’s Land askes all participants of gatherings to honour each other’s physical space, refraining from embracing and hand shaking as much as possible.
Masks are required by all participants, however, homilists and readers may unmask to preach and read/pray, and at a safe distance.
Celebrants, administrants and liturgists are urged to exercise caution and common sense when sharing bread at the Eucharist. Offering bread from hand to hand is acceptable at this time.
While use of the common cup may be safe in practice, it remains as an unresolved issue within the diocesan community. Parishes and Missions shall continue to offer the Blessed Sacrament as individual servings, as best fits the practice of each worshipping community.
May your Lent be filled with wisdom, yearning and love as God blesses you along the road.
In Christ,
+ Geoffrey Woodcroft
